What P0087 Means
The fuel pressure in the fuel rail is lower than the engine control module expects for current operating conditions, which can starve the engine of fuel.
Common Causes
- Weak or failing fuel pump
- Clogged fuel filter
- Clogged fuel injector(s)
- Faulty fuel pressure regulator
- Fuel pump wiring or relay fault
Symptoms You Might Notice
- Loss of power, especially under load or acceleration
- Engine hesitation or stalling
- Difficulty starting
- Check engine light on
What to Check First
- 1
Check the fuel filter first if it's due for replacement
- 2
Test fuel pressure at the rail against specification
- 3
Test the fuel pump's output and the pressure regulator if pressure is low
- 4
Check fuel pump wiring, relay, and fuse for a supply issue
